work in the world of water
Water, air and ships are the main themes of the Dordrecht Impressionist Anthonie Pieter Dish. He painted it in all seasons, with variable weather and changing light. He was the mood of the moment wonderfully taken.
Dish learned from his teacher Herman Gunneweg like the French Impressionists painting outdoors, directly from nature. He was strong in lighting effects, clouds and water play. His method was look, look again and quickly paint what the eye registers, typical of the impressionist method.
From 1915 works full time as a painter AP Dish with own studio at the Bomkade. In 1925 he moved to Volendam, the colorful fishing village on the Zuider Zee at that time attracted many artists. Dish had here but one goal: the tough botter learn to paint, and master to perfection.
In 1927 he moved to Flushing, then to Rotterdam and in 1929 he settled in Laren. His concern for the wind. In the twenties and thirties, he travels to London, Belgium and France, where under the influence of the French light work changes.
In the Second World War did Dish good business, his work matched the artistic ideal of the occupier. In 1944 he fled (because of the impending liberation?) To Berlin and breaks a dark period. Only a few years later, back in the Netherlands, creates new work again. Less daring than before, but just as popular.
Dish was during his life a successful artist and his work has always sold well. His paintings speak to many people, they found the 'civilized', 'charming'. His 'paarlmoerige nuance ring' was admired as his "shimmering light".
Film and walkRobin Lutz made a film about the life and work of AP Dish. This film is during the exhibition in Hall (lease and events excluded). There is a walking tour available, which leads along the many places in the city that were important for the painter. Along his birthplace, his studio, Tick Society Pictura and some of his favorite painting spots.
The exhibition is a comprehensive monograph. During the exhibition, publication costs € 29, -, then € 34.95.
The exhibition, film and publishing in close collaboration with Elisabeth Goedvolk Foundation established.
