herpes zoster

Shingles, Herpes Zoster or Zona, is a disease where the victim a chickenpox-like, grouped vesicles on a red base gets a fairly sharply defined portion of the skin.
The disease often begins with pain and tingling in the affected skin area, the pain seems to start on light electric shocks and changes over time in pain similar to muscle pain. At that moment, to the skin, there was no color. After a few days the skin red and get the fluid-filled blisters that resemble small blisters. Always only one side of the body affected. The blisters will eventually into scabs which can sometimes pussing. After about 2 to 3 weeks disappear vesicles and crusts. Especially in older people remains sometimes a long pain in the affected skin areas exist, which can be sometimes very violently. When acting in the face are sometimes other nerve branches affected, causing hearing may reduce or partial paralysis of the facial muscles may occur. Shingles on the body itself is not dangerous, but very painful. Shingles on the face can impair vision and must always be treated.

The similarity with chickenpox is not accidental, the agent is the same virus as the chickenpox virus. Once it has been created by chickenpox, then one gets the virus never completely lost, it remains hiding in certain nerve cells, from which decades later shingles can flare up. This happens more often when the immune system is less. People who do not have chickenpox by, are a sufferer of shingles are infected with the virus. Conversely causes chickenpox not shingles in people who already have had chickenpox.
